Exercise in the Park

Exercising is popular in Central park, and on the weekends, they close off the car lanes and open them to cyclists, rollerbladers, joggers, and pedestrians only. It is much more pleasurable to jog along a shady, tree-lined path than it is to run amongst tall buildings on the sweltering sidewalks in the heart of the city.

Rickshaws inthe Park

Although they are a lot more expensive than the ones in India, and not nearly as authentic, rickshaws are still a popular way to travel in Central Park. Here, a mother and her children sit back and relax while the driver makes his hard earned daily wages.

Picnic in the Park

Many park goers prefer the shade to the sun. Here a family has a picnic while one family member takes a much needed power nap after spending all day in the sun.

Professors' Pool

Intellectual types such as these two professors use the fountain side to host their deep, philosophical debates and class lectures.

Fountain of Fun

Many people seem to gravitate towards water on a hot day. In this picture, some people are actually partaking in water sports such as canoeing and swimming. Others prefer to simply sit around the fountain's edge and take in the views.

Ball Games in the Park

There were several fields in the area which hosted baseball and soccer games. These more deliberate, organized social spaces encouraged social interaction in the form of spectating, cheering, and downing a good hot dog or two!
